A Tribute to Supt. Schettini

It is with great sadness that I share my thoughts with you as I reflect on the loss of our Superintendent of Schools Patrick Schettini. His death has left a void in our district and in the hearts of everyone who knew and worked with Pat.

Pat was one of those people who absolutely loved his work as an educator. He knew he could make a difference for our students and always focused on how to improve our schools. When the year 2000 arrived, Pat was ready to begin promoting this new global society for our students. He knew we had to change, and that technology was just the beginning of this shift in teaching and learning. Our school and the entire district is a different place today because of his vision and willingness to take the lead to make the necessary changes.

Pat loved to visit here at Joshua Eaton. He loved to see our students' enthusiasm for learning and our teachers' passion for teaching. He shared in so many of our special events such as our Veterans Day assembly, Colonial Day, and special assemblies. He connected readily with both children and adults, and all saw him as the true leader he was. Even during his illness, he was eager to hear our news.

We will move foward and keep Pat's legacy alive. His vision is captured in our district vision. We will continue the work he so inspired all of us to do to educate and support our students as they go through the Reading Public Schools ready to meet and succeed in the global society. He was a unique leader who dedicated all of his efforts to promote and advocate for the school system we have today.

Superintendent Schettini has taught us all what is important and the values that matter most in life. He truly made a difference in the lives of the thousands of students he impacted throughout his career both here in Reading and other communities. His dreams will live on through each of us who were fortunate to have been part of his team.

Let's work together to keep his vision alive for all of our students. He will continue to be my inspiration.

Patty de Garavilla
